Ng Idie’s departure entourage at the Manila International Airport bidding her adieu for her trip to London to become a nurse at Brompton Hospital. Ng Idie is the one in the middle wearing a dark suit.
From Nong Dentor, the youngest sibling of the Carlos-Florencia troop:
I wrote Kat, our only child, that Ng Idie must have been a good friend, cousin, and acquaintance. She must have touched the lives of so many people because of her innate goodness. Thank you so much for the emails, text messages, and the calls that we received telling us of your deep sympathy , and prayers for Ng Idie’s peaceful rest. Thanks to those who did not leave messages, but still prayed for Ng Idie.
Did you know that…
1. Ng Idie ranked number 5 in her Midwifery Board Exam?
2. She was trained as a nurse in London?
3. She was a nurse supervisor of a hospital in Amsterdam where she met and married her German husband?
4. Her favorite song was Greenfield? [there's a nice story behind that]
5. She sent birthday greetings and christmas cards without fail to her hundreds of friends all over the world every year?
6. She married late and did not have a child because she wanted to help the family first?
We will miss Ng Idie. She will always be remembered as an “ideal’ sister for all her sacrifices for the welfare of her brothers and sisters.
But I think she is happier where she is now. Owa eon it twice a week nga dialysis. I think that she is praying for our good health and happiness because she loves us.
Again in behalf of our family, I say thank you so much for easing our pain. Your thoughtfulness and kindness will always remain in our hearts.
God bless,
Red

It is very unfortunate to hear that Horst, Ng Idie’s husband, is also very ill and is in the hospital.
Update:
Ng Idie’s best friends in Hamburg, Fe and Ernie Evangelista has been taking care of Ng Idie. I am posting here one of her letters:
Ernie (my husband) and I had a talk with our parish priest yesterday, regarding the requiem mass for Idie. He asked some questions, which I didn’t mind all these years asking Idie. But thru the help of her friends from Amsterdam, these are now solved.
Can you tell me how many brothers and sisters are they in their family. She mentioned this to me, but am no longer sure of the no.
Ken mentioned about Greenfields, I too, know this song, which she always sing when we have parties using karaoke, but this remains her secret, the story behind this nice song was never unfolded. Our priest asked about the text, and I could only remember the 1st two lines.
It’s a practice here that the priest officiating the mass always deliver a short eulogy, that’s why he asked us many questions, not only biograhically summarized, but specially how she is–e.g. in character, very religious, helpful to everyone, etc.
I remember one time, we bought many chocolates, cause she’s going to send it in a balikbayan box. I told her there are now so many chocolates in the Phils. Yes, she said, but these ones are “pili” ko,a nd the ones who receive these are always thankful and happy that she had not forgotten them.
Since the priest is going to deliver these messages to the attending guest, I’ve decide not to repeat his words, but instead make copies of your emails where most of you expressed your respect and love for her, which I think in this regard, you are doing the eulogy indirectly. Hope you have nothing against this idea. Besides, am not really sure if I can tackle to deliver one, although Fr. Escalante, our Pilipino priest here in Hamburg, gave me some tips, and he said crying cannot usually be avoided. Fr. Escalante will also try his best to attend the mass.
After the mass, it’s is a common practice here that the guest are invited to join us for coffee, where Ernie and I already chose a small restaurant just 4 houses away from our church where the ceremony will be held.It will be here that we’re going to give the guest copies of your letters.
Opring will do the video and Ernie will do the normal picture taking, so we can later send you copies.I’m sure other friends will do the same.
Thanks again for all your letters.
Regards,
feng & Ernie

Here’s the lyrics of Greenfields by the Brothers Four:
Greenfields
Brothers Four
Music & Lyrics : Terry Gilkyson – Rich Dehr – Frank Miller
Once there were green fields, kissed by the sun.
Once there were valleys, where rivers used to run.
Once there were blue skies, with white clouds high above.
Once they were part of an everlasting love.
We were the lovers who strolled through green fields.
Green fields are gone now, parched by the sun.
Gone from the valleys, where rivers used to run.
Gone with the cold wind, that swept into my heart.
Gone with the lovers, who let their dreams depart.
Where are the green fields, that we used to roam ?
I’ll never know what, made you run away.
How can I keep searching when dark clouds hide the day.
I only know there’s, nothing here for me.
Nothing in this wide world, left for me to see.
Still I’ll keep on waiting, until you return.
I’ll keep on waiting, until the day you learn.
You can’t be happy, while your heart’s on the roam,
You can’t be happy until you bring it home.
Home to the green fields, and me once again.
The Website of the Brothers Four is located here. They are still around, performing around the world.
